NEW RECARO RSS

 RSS: The Evolution of Driving Position

 

RECARO's new street-use bucket seat "RSS" will go on sale in May 2025. The wide range of driving position choices that has evolved with the PRO RACER RMS has also been realized in RSS.

The number of mounting holes for the dedicated side adapter used when attaching RSS seats has been greatly increased, as has been the case with the PRO RACER RMS. As a result, the height and angle adjustment area are expanded, and the pitch that can be adjusted is also set in detail. The height and angle adjustment holes on the front side of the RS-G side adapter are pitched by 3 degrees. The front side of the RSS is the same 1.5-degree pitch as the PRO RACER RMS, and the height and angle can be adjusted. On the rear side, the RS-G had two height adjustments, but the RSS has increased to three holes.

Not only has the height and angle of mounting on the side adapter side been increased, but the overall form of the seat body has also evolved so that it can adapt to changes in mounting angles over a wider range. By reviewing the shape of the bottom of the seat body to avoid interference between the seat and the slide rail, the maximum value is further reduced by 10 mm than that of the RS-G. In order to realize the ideal seating posture for each customer in various car models with the original performance of RECARO seats, RSS has evolved the area where the driving position can be adjusted.


RECARO's own Core frame for RSS


The core frame is the technology adopted in the PRO RACER RMS, which opened up a new era as a full bucket seat for motorsports. In order to achieve weight reduction while maintaining high strength and rigidity, where should the shell structure be strengthed, where should it be rigid, and where should it be lightweight? RECARO's unique technology created the "Core Frame" concept.

The Core frame concept developed by the PRO RACER RMS is also used for RSS. The shape of the back of the backrest visualizes the evolution of its performance. With this technology, the "vertical rigidity" of RSS is increased by 1.4 times compared to RS-G. The "torsional stiffness" around the shoulder blades has also been increased by about 2 times. All of this has been evolved to increase the steering stability of sports driving with seats. It is said that it demonstrates its advanced performance in situations where the car is operated faster, more delicately, and more accurately, such as full braking from the highest speed, delicate steering operation with lateral G applied in high-speed corners, and corners with continuous turnovers such as S-shapes and double hairpins. Its high performance reduces the burden on the body even for street use.

In addition, by increasing the rigidity of the shell, the burden on the shape rigidity of the entire shell has been reduced, and the silhouette of the side support in particular can be reviewed. As a result, the stress of "elbow hit" during shifting, which occurred in some models and in certain seating positions, is also reduced.

Large-sized RSS models


Regardless of whether it is a domestic car or an imported car, the RS-G was based on the concept of a compact overall form in order to match as many models as possible. RSS, which emphasizes street use, also inherits this concept. On the other hand, there were many requests for sizes that even those with a slightly better physique could choose. However, there was a definite reason for RECARO JAPAN, which has stubbornly stuck to one size until now. If the shell size of the seat is increased, especially in the case of mini cars and compact cars such as in Japan, interference with the interior will be inevitable depending on the car, and the number of things that do not fit will increase. Without sitting on the actual one, without actually installing it on each car, the difficulty of choosing a large size was avoided from the customer's point of view. Even so, it is true that there has been an increase in demand for large seats in recent years. RECARO JAPAN has maintained a cautious stance, but in accordance with the concept of street use, the ban on large sizes has been lifted in the RSS model in order to achieve both sports driving and driving comfort.

RSS has a lineup of "large size" variations based on large size full bucket seat models (Pole Position, etc.) that have been proven in the past. The maximum width of the entire seat has been increased by 15 mm. However, the inner dimensions of the seating surface side of the buttocks have increased by 40 mm.

Furthermore, since the increase in the size of the entire shell causes interference between the seat belt buckle and the seat side, the shell shape width near the contact is narrowed by 10 mm on each side as a mitigation measure.
